Dinner Party: Which 6 people from History would you invite and why?
Malcolm X – funny, charismatic and articulate. Would be an excellent person to get into a debate with and would challenge guests with his thought provoking questions.
Queen Elizabeth I – a complete inspiration. She defied tradition and belief by refusing to marry. I am intrigued by her strength and courage at a time when women were treated as second class citizens.
Gaviro Princip– I’d like to ask him would he still have shot Archduke Franz Ferdinand if he knew it would lead to World War I.
Captain James Cook – to hear his fascinating stories of his journeys across the globe, and to find out what it what was like to see countries such as Australia for the first time.
Nelson Mandela – to learn about his experiences of living in South Africa under apartheid and to ask him how he found the strength to survive Robben Island and the power to forgive his captors.
Emily Davidson – to learn about her experiences as a Suffragette and to solve the mystery of the Epsom Derby – was it an accident or suicide?
If you could be present at any historical event:
The fall of the Berlin Wall; to experience the incredible atmosphere and emotions of families and friends being reunited for the first time in just under 30 years.
Favourite Historical Book:
A place of greater safety by Hilary Mantel. This is a historical fiction novel about the people involved in the French Revolution. It’s such an interesting story with fascinating characters.
Favourite Historical Film:
Selma I love this film because it really portrays the strength and courage of people involved in the struggle for African American Civil Rights.
Favourite Historical argument to get into a debate about:
Did the British Empire do more harm than good?
